Rentals/Community Use of Schools Program

The intent of the Community Use of Schools Program is to encourage increased use of community schools by not-for-profit community groups at reduced rates. The Halton District School Board continues to offer school space at reduced rates to not-for-profit community groups and will continue to do so as long as Ministry funding is in place.

Groups who will receive the reduced rates would need to provide proof of not-for-profit status as well as acknowledging and agreeing that the reduced rates to book school facilities will result in reduced program costs, or other direct benefits to their participants.

The Halton District School Board’s largest users of space are the four Municipal Parks & Recreation Departments through the Reciprocal Agreement. This accounts for a large number of community sports and children’s group activities. The majority of eligible not-for-profit groups would be booking space in our schools through the Municipalities. In addition to the Municipal use of our schools, childcare providers of before and after school programs, and outside service, sports and church groups who meet the known criteria are eligible to request available space at the reduced rates. These few remaining groups/agencies who qualify but do not fall under the Municipal umbrella would book directly through our Rental Coordinator and must provide the proof of not-for-profit status, fully completed Rental Request form and a Letter of Acknowledgement agreeing to pass on the cost savings directly to their participants.

The information under Downloads has been provided to clarify and assist you in understanding our requirements and your responsibility when renting space in school facilities.
