Board begins review and development of Strategic Planning document
January 19, 2011: Members of the public as well as employees of the Halton District School Board are invited to provide input to the Halton District School Board’s 2011-14 Strategic Plan development through this survey link:
http://checkbox.hdsb.ca/Survey.aspx?surveyid=1585.

The survey, posted at www.hdsb.ca, asks people to review the current strategic plan and provide input regarding the direction of the new planning document.

Feedback is encouraged before February 4, 2011. Once feedback has been received through this initial process, trustees and senior administrators will review the information and compile concepts in the draft plan for 2011-14. The document will then be shared with stakeholders for further consultation before it’s presented to the Board for approval in May 2011.

The new plan will build on the current Strategic Plan, developed in 2006 to provide direction for 2007-10. The current plan outlines the Board’s commitment to “every student”. It focuses the attention of trustees and senior management on setting targets for students, staff and the system to facilitate this mission. The plan outlines clear obligations categorized under the values of relationships, respect, responsibilities and ingenuity.

Based on this document, “operational plans” were developed in each year to set specific targets and actions consistent with the strategic plan.

“Those actions have produced outstanding results as measured by student performance where the achievement of students far exceed the averages in the province of Ontario,” says David Euale, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. “The development of a new four-year plan will guide the Halton Board and its staff in further enhancing the educational opportunities for Halton students.”

“The trustees and senior management of the Board welcome your counsel on the development of our new plan,” says Don Vrooman, Chair of the Board. “As a first step in soliciting your advice, we welcome you to review the current plan and offer comments and suggestions on the effectiveness of the plan, and your suggestions for new directions for the Board.”

“All responses will be shared with all trustees and senior administration and will assist us in developing a first draft of our strategic plan,” says Euale. “The draft will be shared broadly in the community to refine and improve the plan for 2011-14.”
