November 18, 2010: The Halton District School Board is hosting a special event to welcome secondary school students and their families who have arrived in Canada within the last three years.
Entitled, “Welcome to Halton", the event will be held on Wednesday, November 24 from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Milton District High School (396 Williams Avenue).
The evening includes information and a chance to meet newcomers from all Halton District School Board schools. Food and entertainment will also be provided.
Muzammal Nawaz, four-time Canadian kickboxing champion and current coach of the Canadian national kickboxing team, will give a keynote address. Nawaz was born in Bristol, England and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1972 at the age of four.
Four former and current students who were once one-time newcomers themselves will address students.
“It promises to be a wonderful evening full of fun, food and friends,” says Moira Chisholm, Instructional Program Leader, Newcomer, Grade 8-9 Transition for the Halton District School Board.
