September 5, 2012: A few Halton District School Board schools are celebrating anniversaries this year.
Central Public School (638 Brant St., Burlington) is celebrating a major milestone – its 100th anniversary – with an open house and fun fair on Saturday, September 29, 2012.
The school welcomes former students, staff and others who have been a part of the Central Public School community during the past 100 years to attend. The event starts at 10 a.m. and includes the planting of a ceremonial tree by a former student from the 1950s. There will also be a display of memorabilia and pictures showing what has transpired over the past century at Central Public School plus honouring the old Central school building (originally located at Brant and Caroline Streets). In addition, there will be an open house with classrooms decorated in each decade from the last 100 years.
A Fun Fair will be held outside with free activities like bouncy castles, a climbing wall, games, face painting, candy floss, snow cones, a raffle of prizes and a silent auction. Anniversary memorabilia including T-shirts, tote bags, key chains and water bottles will be available for purchase.
Central Public School alumni are invited to share photos and memorabilia for the event. Contact the school at 905-634-7739 or email centralturns100@hotmail.com for more information.
In April 2013, Burlington’s Maplehurst Public School will celebrate its 100th anniversary during an afternoon event. Details are still to be determined.
