May 17, 2011: WHAT: The Halton Catholic District School Board, Halton District School Board, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel District School Board are hosting OYAP and Beyond, an evening of celebrating student apprentices.
WHEN: Tuesday, May 31, 2011, 6:30-8 p.m.
WHERE: White Oaks Secondary School, South Campus, 1330 Montclair Drive, Oakville
WHY: OYAP and Beyond is another critical link in the Ministry of Education’s Student Success initiative, Learning to 18, where the aim is to reach every student. The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) allows students to acquire both apprenticeship hours and high school credits at the same time through Cooperative Education at high school.
This event is an opportunity to celebrate this important milestone for students and to acknowledge the valuable partnership between industry and education. These students have registered in one of the four sectors of Apprenticeship (Construction, Industrial, Motive and Service).
A variety of employment agencies from Employment Ontario, the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities ( MTCU) and Apprenticesearch.com will be in attendance to meet with the student apprentices and discuss post-secondary pathways.
The first event of its kind, the four school boards are expecting about 400 in attendance, including the student apprentices, staff and community members.
