Nominations due February 1, 2010
The Halton District School Board encourages parents, community members and staff to nominate outstanding educators for the Premier’s Awards for Teaching Excellence. The annual award recognizes exceptional teachers, principals and support staff for their contribution to help students reach their full potential.
Last year, three of the awards went to Halton District School Board staff. In the category of Teacher of the Year, Monique Gazan, teacher at Iroquois Ridge High School in Oakville received the award. Jonathan Hancock at Glen Williams Public School received the award for New Teacher of the Year, and in the category of Excellent Support Staff, David Margetts, the former Head Custodian at White Oaks Secondary School, received the award.
Anyone can nominate a school or school board staff in Ontario’s publicly funded education system. There are six different categories:
- Teacher of the Year
- New Teacher of the Year (no more than 3 years’ experience)
- Excellent Support Staff
- Excellence in Leadership
- Lifetime Achievement
- Team of the Year
