August 30, 2012: The opening of a new Halton District School Board elementary school and two high schools highlight the upcoming 2012-13 school year, which begins on
Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
Alton Village Public School (3290 Steeplechase Dr., Burlington) will officially open its doors for the first time to staff and students on Tuesday. The three-storey school features a full passenger elevator, barrier-free access, air conditioning with individual classroom controls, double gym, bus drop off area and kindergarten drop off area, and plenty of natural light.
Garth Webb Secondary School opens at 2820 Westoak Trails Blvd. in Oakville. The three-storey school features barrier-free accessibility for approximately 1,200 students and staff, a triple gym, studio/theatre, specialty classrooms and an all-weather running track.
In Milton, Craig Kielburger Secondary School will open its doors this year, replacing E.C. Drury High School. The new two-storey building, located at 1151 Ferguson Dr., features barrier-free accessibility for 1,200 students and staff, a triple gym, studio/theatre, food school and technical educational facilities, and an all-weather running track.
Renovations to existing schools have been completed during the summer including enhancements to accommodate 19 additional Full Day Every Day Kindergarten programs.
“We thank our facilities staff for preparing our 101 elementary and secondary schools for the arrival of our 57,000 students on the first day. We are especially delighted to have the opportunity to open three schools for the beginning of the 2012-13 school year,” says David Euale, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board.
“We commend staff for their leadership in our new school projects and renovations. These buildings will provide enhanced learning and workplace environments for students and staff members while instilling a sense of community everyone in the Halton District School Board can feel proud of.”
