Official groundbreaking ceremony for new
elementary school in Burlington’s Alton community
October 17, 2011: The Halton District School Board will hold the official groundbreaking ceremony for its newest elementary school on Thursday, October 20, 2011. The ceremony will take place at the school site, located in the Alton community in Burlington, as indicated below:

Date: Thursday, October 20, 2011 
Time:  11 a.m.
Location: 3290 Steeplechase Drive, Burlington
Directions:  Steeplechase Drive is located northeast of the Walker’s Line and Dundas Street intersection. Turn east onto Thomas Alton Boulevard from Walker’s Line and then left onto Steeplechase Drive.  

This new elementary school will help address growth occurring in north Burlington. Construction will begin immediately, with the official opening anticipated for September 2012.

The three-storey school will feature a full passenger elevator, barrier-free access for students and visitors, air conditioning with individual classroom controls, networked for computer use, double gym, bus drop off area and kindergarten drop off area, plus instructional areas will include natural light.

The budget for construction of this school, including furniture and equipment, is $13.7 million. The Halton District School Board has awarded the architectural tender to Snyder and Associates Inc. of Toronto, and the construction contract to Everstrong Construction Limited of Orangeville.  

In attendance at the ceremony will be Halton District School Board trustees, senior administrative staff, local government officials, area residents, and a number of students who will attend the new school when it opens in September 2012.
