February 23, 2011: At the February 16, 2011 Board Meeting, trustees of the Halton District School Board approved the school year calendar for 2011-2012. This year’s calendar has been modified from the Ministry of Education’s proposed calendar, and must therefore be submitted to the ministry by March 1, 2011. Final approval of the calendar by the Ministry of Education is anticipated later in spring 2011.

The first day of school for the 2011-2012 school year will be Tuesday, September 6, 2011. The Kindergarten calendars will be available in late May.
School boards are required to identify a minimum of 194 school days, between Labour Day and
June 30, of which no more than six days may be professional activity (PA) days, and at least 188 must be instructional days.
The additional professional activity days have been scheduled for both elementary and secondary schools on October 7, 2011, November 18, 2011, February 3, 2012, April 27, 2012 and June 29, 2012.
Elementary and secondary schools will have separate PA days on the following days – February 17, 2012 will be a PA day for secondary teachers only and June 8, 2012 will be a PA day for elementary teachers only.
The December Break will run from December 26, 2011 to January 6, 2012, inclusive, with students returning to class on Monday, January 9, 2012. The March Break for the 2011-2012 school year will be held from March 12 to 16, 2012(inclusive).
High school examinations for the first semester will be scheduled from January 26 to February 1, 2012 (inclusive). Second semester exams will be slated from June 21 to June 27, 2012 (inclusive).
