January 12, 2010: The Halton District School Board encourages public input in the naming of the Board’s new elementary school in Burlington, currently under construction and scheduled to open in September 2011. The school is located in the Orchard community at 2474 Sutton Drive.

Suggestion forms and ballot boxes will be placed in public schools and libraries beginning Monday, January 17, 2011, at the following locations: 

• Orchard Park Public School, 5151 Dryden Avenue
• Charles R. Beaudoin Public School, 4313 Clubview Drive
• Alexander’s Public School, 2223 Sutton Drive
• Florence Meares Public, 2102 Berwick Drive
• Tansley Woods Public Library, 1996 Itabashi Way 
 
Suggested names may be submitted until Friday, February 11, 2011. Entries may also be faxed to 905-335-4447, submitted online at www.hdsb.ca or mailed to: Communications Department, Halton District School Board, PO Box 5005 STN LCD 1, Burlington, Ontario, L7R 3Z2. Please include your name, address, telephone number and school (if applicable).

Halton District School Board trustees will receive a report of short-listed names for their consideration in March, as they determine the final name for the school.

“The naming of a new school is a first step in giving the new school an identity,” says Director of Education David Euale. “Ultimately, the true identity of the school will be a product of the community and particularly the students it will serve. Therefore, it is the policy of the Halton District School Board to seek suggestions for the name of a new school. We look forward to receiving school name suggestions from the community including students.”
