January 30, 2012: The Halton District School Board encourages public input in naming the Board’s newest elementary school, currently under construction and scheduled to open in September 2012. The new school is located in the Alton community in northeast Burlington at 3290 Steeplechase Drive.
Suggestion forms and ballot boxes have been placed in schools that are currently accommodating students who will attend the new school when it opens. These schools include:
- Rolling Meadows Public School
- Clarksdale Public School
- C.H. Norton Public School
The suggestion forms and ballot boxes have also been placed at Tansley Woods Public Library and M.M. Robinson High School.
Suggested names may be submitted until Friday, February 17, 2012. Entries may also be submitted online at www.hdsb.ca or by clicking here, faxed to (905) 335-4447 or mailed to the Communications Department, Halton District School Board, PO Box 5005 ST LCD 1, Burlington, Ontario L7R 3Z2. Please include your name and contact information in case clarification is needed.
It is anticipated Trustees will select the name for the new school at the April 4, 2012 Board meeting.
“The naming of a new school is an opportunity to recognize contributions of particular individuals, or the unique local history or culture of a community,” says David Euale, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. “We look forward to receiving school name suggestions from the community, including suggestions from students.”
