April 23, 2010: At the April 21, 2010 Board Meeting, trustees of the Halton District School Board approved the School Year Calendar for 2010-2011. These dates have been provided to schools to be shared with students and parents, and they are also posted on the Board’s website at www.hdsb.ca. School Boards must submit their approved calendars to the Ontario Ministry of Education for final approval by
May 1, 2010.
The first day of school for the 2010-2011 school year will be Tuesday, September 7, 2010. The Kindergarten “All Day, Alternate Day” calendar will be available in late May.
School boards are required to identify a minimum of 194 school days, between Labour Day and June 30, of which no more than six days may be professional activity (PA) days, and at least 188 must be instructional days. For the 2010-2011 school year, there are not 194 days available between Labour Day and June 30. Therefore, one professional activity day has been placed prior to Labour Day, on Thursday, September 2. Friday, September 3 will be a Board designated holiday for teaching staff.
The additional professional activity days have been scheduled for both elementary and secondary schools on October 8, 2010, November 12, 2010, January 31, 2011, April 8, 2011. In the month of June, elementary and secondary schools will have separate PA days – Friday, June 10, 2011 will be a PA Day for elementary teachers only and Thursday, June 30, 2011 will be a PA day for secondary teachers only.
The Christmas Break will run from December 20, 2010 to December 31, 2010, inclusive, with students returning to class on Monday, January 3, 2011. The March Break for the 2010-2011 school year will be held from March 14 to 18, 2011 (inclusive).
High school examinations for the first semester will be scheduled from January 21 to January 27, 2011. Second semester exams will be slated from June 22 to June 28, 2011.
