April 15, 2011: Oakville's two new elementary schools, James W. Hill Public School and Palermo Public School, will celebrate their first year with events planned in May.
On Wednesday, May 4, 2011, Palermo Public School will host two events – one for students and invited guests during the school day, and a separate event for parents and the community. The community open house will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a multicultural potluck dinner and a brief assembly. Students and families are invited to participate in classroom activities, as well as to view displays. Palermo Public School is located at 2561 Valleyridge Drive. On Thursday, May 5, 2011, James W. Hill Public School is hosting an official opening celebration from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The event will include special speakers such as award-winning author Lawrence Hill, Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, and Board trustees and senior administrative staff, as well as musical performances by students. The official opening celebration for Milton's newest elementary school, Tiger Jeet Singh Public School, was held earlier in the school year.
