An expanded version of the Halton District School Board's recent Band Extravaganza was held at the end of March at various locations throughout Burlington.
Spread over two days compared to its original one day format, the popular event enjoyed its impressive 10th year. It was held on Tuesday, March 30 and Wednesday, March 30 at four locations - Burlington Music Centre (2311 New St.), Burlington Seniors’ Centre (2285 New St.), and Central Library (2331 New St.) and Arena (519 Drury Lane).
Music flowed from instruments like the flute, clarinet, alto sax and trombone filled the air as approximately 800 Grade 7 and 8 music students from scores of Halton public schools attended the all-day, two-day program.
The 10th annual Band Extravaganza featured 18 hands-on clinics run by professional musicians, with the clinicians sponsored by Yamaha Canada and Burlington’s Long and McQuade (3180 Mainway Dr.).
At noon on both days, students participated in three massed bands, led by well-known Canadian composers including David Marlett and Ryan Meeboer. There will be concerts in the Seniors’ Centre auditorium (east schools), the arena auditorium (north schools) and Music Centre Rehearsal Hall (west schools).
The Board’s award-winning bands from White Oaks Secondary School (WOSS) and Milton District High School (MDHS) as well as the talented Halton Junior Jazz ensemble also performed special concerts at the Senior’s Centre.
