The Nelson Auto Club hosted an event recently where everyone had a roaring good time.
The club, which began last September and sports 18 members, held the 2010 Nelson High School Auto & Bike Show on May 21.
The car club is made up of students who meet every Wednesday after school to work on cars, come up with events to help the community and basically have fun learning about how automobiles work.
The students raised $680 at the May 21 show, to be donated to MADD (Mothers again Drunken Drivers) as a means to raise awareness about drinking and driving.
Grade 12 Student Chris Hyde, the main organizer, worked hard in getting cars in the show and contacting MADD, according to Nelson teacher Tony Assenza.
“He was very successful in getting the students and local dealers such as Burlington Mazda, Burlington Hyundai, Unique Chrysler, JP Motors, Peninsula Imports, clubs and parents to bring their cars,” he explained. “This event involved the Drive Wise driving school, which allowed students to drive a car under different conditions.”
There was also a barbecue and car wash during the all-day event.
“The event was a great success,” said Assenza.
Teacher Joe Cannella and Nelson vice-principal Andrea Garner were also involved in helping organize the show.
