Halton District School Board drama and dance students took to the stage November 24 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga to perform at the annual event, Creating A Scene.

Four hundred Grade 6 to 12 students, representing 15 schools, presented a variety of dance numbers, improvisation comedy, dramatic scenes and creative movement.

Creating a Scene 2011 was an incredible demonstration by Halton drama and dance students and classes,” says Mary Stevenson-Baratto, Instructional Coordinator for the Arts for the Halton District School Board. “All presentations were original student creations and a showcase of the creative and critical thinking being taught in the arts in our schools. This year, ‘bullying prevention’ emerged as a main theme in many of the acts.”

This was the 10th anniversary of Creating a Scene. Diana Knight, a former English and Drama Coordinator created the event to help celebrate the arts of dance and drama, and to promote literacy skills through the arts. Creating a Scene continues to give students an opportunity to create, perform and provide an authentic view of what is involved in a professional theatre production.
