Centennial Public School Walks to Support ALS
Centennial Public School staff, students and School Council worked together to raise $1,783.70 for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease)!
Dr. Jeff Sutherland, Chief of Staff, at Georgetown Hospital, who has Lou Gehrig’s has two sons attending Centennial Public School, and one older son, attending Georgetown District High School. Centennial Public School students and staff were pleased to participate in the ALS walk in support of Dr. Sutherland and the many people across Canada with ALS.
Centennial Public School entered a team in the first ever “Halton Hills ALS Walk” on June 6, 2009. The CentenniALS Team created their own shirts, sold ice cream and ALS wrist bands and hosted a dance. The shirts were generously donated by JV Clothing.
Staff and students collected pledges and received a boost of $500 from Prosperity One. Georgetown Prosperity One Branch Manager, Pauline De Leon-Hutson, walked with Centennial Public School and proudly sported her 'CentenniALS' shirt.
Centennial Public School has been notified the walk in Georgetown raised over $225,000 and donations are still coming in!! The amount raised is reported to be the largest amount ever raised by an ALS walk in Canada. Very impressive when you consider that they normally host the walks in major cities like Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, etc.
The Centennial Public School walk for ALS was a terrific tribute to Doctor Sutherland and all he has given to the community.
