Futures program students raise $700.00 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation!

White Oaks Secondary School’s Futures students worked extremely hard the past few weeks making their beautiful handcrafted “green” fruit (apples, pears and also oranges were for sale) for their June 6th sale at Oakville Place. They raised $700.00 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
Encouraged and inspired by East Side Mario’s owner-operator Mike Cox, the students learned about entrepreneurship and how business can benefit people living far away. Mike Cox said, “The fact that Futures students chose to donate their hard earned sales dollars to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, and help orphan children and grandmothers live a better life in Africa, rather than for their own causes, speaks volumes to the group’s integrity and heart”. Cox continued, “We had a goal to raise $200.00 on the Saturday selling the magnificent hand crafted ‘green’ fruit to mall customers and we sold $700.00! That’s the kind of spirit that creates a community of caring and participation. Futures students did that.”
East Side Mario's generously covered the packaging costs and Wicked to the Core Crafts covered the cost of the gesso, paint and varnish. The funds generated from the sale went directly to the SLF.
