Halton Environmental Youth Awards celebrate green ideas

Previous award recipients from Robert Bateman High School in Burlington
Whether you’re in elementary or high school, the deadline for the submitting your school’s green idea for the Halton Youth Awards is fast approaching – March 12, 2010 to be specific.
Schools are encouraged to submit their initiatives for cleaning up the environment, leading an environmental initiative or awareness program, or for their conservation efforts. Any projects related to the EcoSchools program are also excellence choices, but any green projects are appropriate these awards.
Last years awards went to projects involving school ground greening, innovative waste minimization, and endangered animal protection.
Teachers will support students in making these submissions.
Recipients of the Halton Youth Awards will be invited to the Environmental Awards Breakfast on April 20th featuring keynote speaker Craig Kielburger, founder and chair of Free the Children, a unique international development and youth empowerment organization.
Applications are in all the schools – see your Principal, or contact Carol MacDonald at the New Street Education Centre at macdonaldc@hdsb.ca or phone: 905 631-6120 ext 430.
