Halton Learning Foundation to hold 6th Annual Celebration Dinner

Wildlife artist and environmentalist, Robert Bateman, to attend!

Halton Learning Foundation

The Halton Learning Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Halton District School Board, will hold its 6th annual celebration dinner on Thursday, October 22 at the Oakville Conference Centre, 2525 Wyecroft Road, Oakville.

Students, who for a variety of reasons, may not receive meals on a regular basis, do not have funds to participate in school activities and, may be in danger of dropping out of school are benefited by the Halton Learning Foundation.  Last school year, the Foundation, offered assistance to students, along with the following associations:

  • TD Canada Trust (supported the Bronte Creek program through their Friends of the Environment Program Fund)
  • AAL (continued support of Kings Road Public School)
  • The Rotary Club of Burlington Central (supported breakfast programs in eight elementary schools and four secondary schools in Burlington)
  • Walmart (provided support for literacy programs in two Burlington schools)

During the 2008-09 school year, the Halton Learning Foundation allocated $342,630 to three programs:  Eliminating Barriers ($183,000), Enrichment and Allocated Funds ($126,130) and scholarships ($33,500).

The Eliminating Barriers funds supported students with emergency money, gave 25 schools funds to support literacy programs and provided 20 schools with funds for nutrition programs.

The Enrichment and Allocated Funds program donated money to various teaching disciplines, i.e. arts and music, technology, the environment and conservation management, and healthy and active living.

The annual celebration dinner will include Broadway-themed musical performances by Halton students.  Former Burlington high school teacher and world-renowned wildlife artist and environmentalist, Robert Bateman, will be a special guest at the event.

Reception for the celebration dinners begins at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $100 per person or $720 for a table of eight.  For tickets, please call 905-335-3665, ext. 3408, or e-mail Janice Rowe at rowej@hdsb.ca
