John T. Tuck Public School opened its heart to families in need by donating a few dozen boxes worth of toys, clothes and stationary supplies, just to name a few items, to the local Salvation Army.
Around 25 Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 students helped collect and sort the items, with the Salvation Army truck picking up the generous load of gifts on Friday (December 10, 2010). The items were collected during November and the first part of this month.
The students who helped out are part of a Tribe, which is a process that leads to the development of a positive environment that promotes growth and learning. Each Tribe was given one family of four to support through the Salvation Army. Students brainstormed appropriate gifts to garner while also creating holiday greeting cards for the families.
A total of 24 families have been supported through teh school’s efforts.
Staff members are very proud of the students’ hard work.
“It's the holiday season and Tuck students, their families and staff feel this is a good time to give back to our community,” says teacher Claire Eggers. “Building community and mutual respect creates a positive school climate and learning environment for children and adults.”
