Today (Thursday), students in the Halton District School Board joined members of the Halton Regional Police Service for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. There were three separate runs happening today each in Burlington, Oakville and Milton. Board administrators and senior police officers were in attendance at all three sites.

2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the torch run and the 10th year of partnership with the Halton District School Board.

Ceremonies took place at St John's Catholic School in Burlington (Glenview Public School choir will be performing), W.H. Morden Public School in Oakville, and Robert Baldwin Public School in Milton. After the ceremonies, Burlington and Oakville participants met for barbecues in theri respective cities and towns.

Spectators were encouraged to cheer on the participants along the route.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run, in partnership with the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, encompasses a variety of fundraising initiatives that benefit the athletes in Ontario with an intellectual disability who are involved in Special Olympics programs.
