It was a ‘hair today, gone tomorrow’ for a dozen Montclair Public School students and two staff members who had their flowing hair cut by Locks for Love, a hair donation group supporting children battling cancer.
Sitting in chairs on the gym stage – some a bit nervously – the 14 participants waited as for the hair to be cut in late April. Any student could participate with parent/guardian permission.
The school reached its fundraising goal of $2,500, which will be donated to the Princess Margaret Hospital Cancer Research Centre.
Teacher Tiffany Dinning-Harris says the school undertook the cause because families, staff members and students have been touched by personal experiences of cancer.
“I myself have lost my sister to cancer and many students came to us and told their personal stories,” she says.
