Nelson High School helps kick off
Earth Day 2011 Clean Up Green Up Day
Nelson High School's Environment Club poses with trustee Kristen Lochhead, Burlington Mayor Rick Goldring and BurlingtonGreen

T
his week, Nelson High School helped BurlingtonGreen Environmental Association highlight the upcoming Earth Day 2011 Clean Up Green Up Day. The group invites citizens, groups, schools and businesses to join the clean up, which will be held Saturday, April 30 at various sites throughout the city.

Nelson is doing a couple of things to coincide with BurlingtonGreen’s clean up day.

Nelson is hosting a presentation and workshop on climate change tomorrow (Thursday), which also involves students from Assumption Secondary School. As well, Nelson is participating in a community clean-up event with members of the management team from Burlington Mall on Friday afternoon.

“Our participation helps to create a stronger sense of community for all those involved, and it helps to create more awareness of environmental issues for the rest of the school and greater community,” says Nelson teacher Paul Giannotti. “I am very pleased that we have a core group of students that are willing to take on leadership roles that help to benefit all of the Nelson community.  The protection of our natural environment is obviously a global concern, but I think that we need to begin by acting within our own communities.”
