On Wednesday, May 4, 2011, Palermo Public School hosted two events to officially open its school – one for students and invited guests during the school day, and a separate event for parents and the community. The community open house inlcuded a multicultural potluck dinner and a brief assembly. Students and families were invited to participate in classroom activities, as well as to view displays.

On Thursday, May 5, 2011, James W. Hill Public School hosted an official opening celebration from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The event included special speakers such as award-winning author Lawrence Hill, Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn, Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, and Board trustees and senior administrative staff, as well as musical performances by students.

The official opening celebration for Milton's newest elementary school, Tiger Jeet Singh Public School, was held earlier in the school year.
