A popular parent conference was held recently and featured a keynote speaker talking about learning in today’s digital age.
The Halton District School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) hosted a free one-day workshop for 200 parents and community members at Milton District High School on Saturday, October 22.
The keynote speaker is scheduled to be Garfield Gini-Newman. He has worked with schools to lead major projects exploring the use of interactive technologies to support critical thinking, and using digital technologies to enhance critical, creative and collaborative thinking. Garfield has spoken across Canada and internationally on critical thinking, brain compatible classrooms, curriculum design and effective assessment practice, and nurturing 21st century skills in a digital world.
The conference included a series of workshops that have been well received by parents in year’s past including how schools can effectively fundraise, teaching families safe Internet-use practices, bullying prevention methods and nutrition standards.
