This spring, the Honourable Dave Levac, Speaker of the Ontario Legislature, took time from his busy schedule to speak with Robert Bateman High School’s Grade 10 Civics and Career classes.
“Many students were pleasantly surprised and intrigued with the Speaker's stories of how the parliamentary process developed and how the customs are acted out today in the legislature,” says teacher Victor Disyak. "He was warm and welcoming. During the question-and-answer session, he responded to questions regarding the rumour of the Ontario legislature having a ghost.”
Levac became Ontario’s 41st Speaker on November 21, 2011. As well as presiding over the Legislature, Levac chairs the Board of Internal Economy. Composed of MPPs from the three political parties, this committee is responsible for all financial and administrative matters relating to the Legislative Assembly. The Speaker also has a diplomatic role, welcoming visiting dignitaries to the Legislative building and representing Ontario's parliament both in Canada and abroad.
