Cheering on to a first-place finish

The Aldershot Lions Elementary Cheer Team placed first at the 27th Annual Wonderland Cheer Competition Saturday, May 15. 

The team, made up of 23 Grades 7 and 8 girls, skillfully performed a complex routine of stunts, tumbling, jumps and dance earning them a score of 157 points and outdistancing them 45 points from the second place team.

The girls, who had very little cheerleading experience, began preparing for the competition in January. With exemplary coaching, hard work and determination, the girls developed into skilled cheerleaders who definitely deserve the title of Cheer Champions.

The team was coached by Sarah Lovell and Jesse Cooney of Cheer Force Wolf Pack. Both coaches represented Canada at the 2010 World Cheerleading Championships in Orlando this past April.
