4th Annual Parent Involvement Conference will be held October 22, 2011

On Saturday, October 22, 2011, the Halton District School Board’s
Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) will host a free one-day
workshop for parents and community members in Milton.

Plans are underway for a popular parent conference to be held in October. It will feature a keynote speaker talking about learning in today’s digital age.

On Saturday, October 22, 2011, the Halton District School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) will host a free one-day workshop for parents and community members at Milton District High School (396 Williams Ave.) from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

The keynote speaker is scheduled to be Garfield Gini-Newman.

Gini-Newman has worked with schools to lead major projects exploring the use of interactive technologies to support critical thinking, and using digital technologies to enhance critical, creative and collaborative thinking. Garfield has spoken across Canada and internationally on critical thinking, brain compatible classrooms, curriculum design and effective

assessment practice, and nurturing 21st century skills in a digital world.

The conference will include workshops that have been well received by parents in year’s past. While this year’s are still to be determined, 2010 topics ranged from bullying and collaborative problem solving to health awareness and equity and diversity.

Child minding is available upon request for children three years and older.

Parents and community members are asked to register online in August at
