Halton schools help in Haiti

To date, the amount raised by schools in the Halton District School Board is:  $71,739.12
(Note: Information concerning the specific amounts raised by schools is not available.)

As the stories of devastation in Haiti continue in the aftermath of the January 12th earthquake, Halton elementary and secondary schools have responded. Some schools began to collect money for relief and recovery efforts immediately, some schools are planning events and fundraising activities over the next month.

In many schools these activities have been initiated by students and supported by teachers/staff and school councils and parents.

It is inspiring to see our students learn about their role as citizens of a global community and to see them take action to help others.

Check back here often to see how our schools are helping in Haiti.

(The Halton District School Board is following the recommendations of CIDA - Canadian International Development Corporation - that indicate the best way for Canadians to help is to make monetary donations to reputable relief organizations that intend to use the funds for earthquake relief. Monetary contributions allow relief staff to purchase goods locally, saving valuable time and transportation costs.)
