The Halton District School Board in Ontario, Canada is pleased to welcome international students who wish to apply to complete their educational studies in Halton.
At this time, the Halton District School Board is accepting applications for international students to attend schools in the city of Burlington only.
Applications for elementary international students are looked at on an individual basis due to limited space in the schools. Applications for secondary International Students are being accepted at two schools – Burlington Central High School, which has English as a Second Language (ESL) support and Aldershot High School, which does not have ESL.

Applicants must provide:
- Official copies of the past two years of school records (translated into English)
- a notarized copy of the passport
- a cheque, in the amount of $325 (Cdn.) – which is non-refundable – made payable to the Halton District School Board
FEES:
In the province of Ontario, the academic school year is split into two semesters – semester one, which runs between September and January and semester two, which runs between February and June.
To attend elementary school in the Halton District School Board, the cost is $12,000 (Cdn.) for a full year and $6,000 (Cdn.) for one semester. For secondary education, the cost is $13,000 (Cdn.) for a full year and $6,500 (Cdn.) for one semester. The tuition fees must be paid in full prior to the release of the student’s Letter of Acceptance.
The application deadline for a full year of school for elementary and secondary students is May 31. The deadline for admission for February 2011 is Nov. 31, 2010.
WORK PERMIT:
Families who are in Canada on a Work Permit will need to meet with Karen Stephens, International & Visa Coordinator, before registering at a school.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
International students’ language and math skills are assessed when they arrive at school to ensure appropriate course assignment and language support. English language support is provided.
Students enrolled in the Halton District School Board – which serves more than 52,000 students among 95 schools – are taught the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. Through an excellent learning environment and with the help of state-of-the-art resources, more than 3,100 innovative teachers deliver the ministry curriculum.
There is a two-week holiday during Christmas (December) and a one-week holiday in March.
