Keeping our Kids Safe at School - An introduction to the new legislation (Bill 157)
On January 20, 2010, the Halton District School Board approved the Policy Behaviour, Discipline and Safety of Students replacing Progressive Discipline and School Safety, 2008. This policy became effective February 1, 2010, as required by Bill 157: Keeping Our Kids Safe at School. However, consultation with the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC), the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) and other groups is ongoing and may inform/result in further policy change.
To assist parents, an overview of this new policy explains the substantive changes to the Halton District School Board's previous "Progressive Discipline and School Safety" policy. Furthermore, a letter for parents, guardians and staff explains the importance of ensuring a positive and inclusive school environment for students to succeed.
