How to help your high school child:
Attend parent information sessions, information evenings and parent/teacher interviews
Learn about courses and programs offered and diploma requirements
Know key dates for reports, interview nights and information evenings
Encourage your child to engage in the process of exploring career and education and training opportunities in all pathways
Review your child's Annual Education Plan regularly and make use of educational planning tools like myblueprint.ca and the Pathways Planner
Listen for the talents and skills your child shows an interest in
Talk to your child about the work you and other family members and friends do
Help your child expand their list of possibilities that include more than one pathway
Find out about costs and financial assistance for post secondary education and training
Encourage the development of a Plan "A" and a Plan "B"
Maintain contact with your child's teachers and guidance counsellor
Support your child in their exploration of new skills and interests and in their decision-making
Find out about ways to get involved in your child's school such as joining the school council or volunteering
Have fun in the process!
