Water Testing for Lead in Water

The Halton District School Board, in accordance with Ontario Regulation 243/07, conducts annual testing for lead in water at school sites. As a result of this regulation school caretakers are required to maintain a flushing of water pipes before each school day. Flushing the water system is required in order to reduce the lead concentrations in school water supplies to within Ministry of Environment acceptable standards for lead. The results are posted in the download section and they are saved as 11 x 17 to ensure legibility.

Waste Audits and Waste Reduction Work Plans

Ontario Regulation (O.Reg) 102/94 requires all educational institutions with 350 or more students, at any time during the current or previous 3 years, to perform an annual Waste Audit and develop, post and implement a Waste Reduction Work Plan, based on the audit results.  In addition, O.Reg 103/94 requires that all educational institutions with 350 or more students, implement a "source separation" (i.e. recycling) program.  These Regulations are part of the legislative requirements of the Ontario Environmental Protection Act.

The Halton District School Board's "Environmental Sustainability and Stewardship Policy", identifies the Board's commitment to "achieving continual, measurable improvements in educational and operational practices".   It also asserts that "waste reduction" and "minimization of environmental impact", are the responsibility of all members of the Halton District School Board.  Therefore, all Halton District School Board schools, regardless of population, have had a Waste Audit performed, and a Waste Reduction Work Plan generated, in accordance with the requirements set out in Ontario Regulations 102/94 and 103/94
