Elementary Student Attendance System
At the Halton District School Board each elementary school has a safe arrival process. One important structure to ensure safe arrival is the absence check that takes place daily. In collaborating with parents/guardians we are able to provide a safety network for our students.
The Halton District School Board is working to improve our existing Absence Check process. The goal of this new system is to provide an accountability measure that will reduce student attendance verification time and therefore allow immediate response to unaccounted for absences of students.
To accomplish our goal, we will be introducing new technology. Many, but not all, of our Elementary Schools have decided to use the new “Elementary Student Attendance” system. This system must be used by the entire school and each school decides to adopt this.
The first steps toward an automated Absence Check will be the introduction of an automated interactive telephone system and a web site that will allow parents/guardians to either call a toll free number 1-877 number or logon to the web site to report their child’s absence. This system will lead parents/guardians through the process of reporting the absence of their elementary child. This system will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time.
The implementation of this first phase of an automated Absence Check will begin on September 2011.
