Information and Computer Technology in Our Schools

The Information Technology Department provides Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to our schools and administrative departments.  To do this we provide the following:

  • 12,000 workstations (Windows and MacIntosh desktops, laptops and netbooks) for student and staff usage.  These workstations are allocated in the ratios below.  Note readjustments happen from time to time as student populations change.
    • one per 7 elementary students,
    • one per 5 secondary students,
    • 1 per principal, vice-principal, secretary, guidance staff and JWS/New Street staff member
    • 1 per school for custodial team
    • 1 for every 3 teachers

  • Approximately 2,500 assistive technology devices (SEA/ISA), typically windows laptops, assigned to students
  • Workstation and hardware (printers, scanners etc.) support.
  • Network Access - access to the internet and file storage (with backup)
  • Wireless Access within all of our schools
  • High Speed internet access to all of our schools
  • Software - provide and support many titles.
