Delay in opening new Milton elementary schools

In May 2009, Milton parents were informed of the delayed opening of the two new elementary schools  -- Escarpment View Public School and P.L. Robertson Public School.  These schools will not be ready for occupancy on the first day of school (Tuesday September 8, 2009). While this outcome is unfortunate, it is unavoidable, as the Board must ensure the school construction is complete and the buildings are safe for staff and students.  It is anticipated the schools will be completed in late December 2009.

In light of this information, Board staff members set about to develop an alternate temporary accommodation plan.  The development of this plan was challenging since all Milton elementary schools are fully utilized. There is currently no school facility that can accommodate the entire staff and student body of either of these two schools.

Of utmost importance in developing the temporary accommodation plan was to ensure the highest quality program from students.  As well, to ensure the smoothest possible transition to the new schools, the Board intends to assign teachers and staff with their students in the temporary locations in order to minimize staff changes once the schools are complete.
