Research in the Halton District School Board

The Halton District School Board supports research that is deemed worthwhile and to have a high degree of educational relevance. Research must directly support our ability to provide the highest quality education that prepares our students for success as responsible, participating citizens of the local and global communities.

Well-designed and relevant research initiatives will support the development and application of best practices in our programs, methodology and/or will provide information to our school communities that will enable them to more effectively meet the needs of our children.

There are three distinct groups that define and determine research directions in the HDSB.

  • System research initiatives and foci are reviewed and shaped by the Research Steering Committee.
  • The Research Advisory Committee reviews all internal and external research proposals.
  • The Research Team works collaboratively with personnel from a variety of departments and schools to implement research and data-based initiatives aimed at improving student learning.

The Halton District School Board encourages the submission of research proposals from both HDSB employees and external investigators and organizations. It is the responsibility of the Research Advisory Committee to review all research submissions prior to implementation.

Information about the HDSB policies and guidelines for conducting research as well as the application process can be found in the document entitled Towards Best Practices: Encouraging Research in the Halton District School Board.
