Metro Green Apple School Grant
In 2009, Sheridan was among the first schools selected by Metro to receive a Green Apple School Grant. We used the $1,000 grant to plant many new trees in the playground plus a rainbarrel and composter.
Now in their third year of grants, Metro has once again awarded Sheridan with $1,000 for the program "One Tree at a Time." This school program is designed to continue improving the playground shade available to students while also increasing wildlife habitat, one tree at a time.
Students will be involved in selecting the tree(s) to be planted in the spring of 2012.
To increase student awareness of habitat challenges facing the Canadian wildlife, Sheridan will also invite Earth Rangers to present "Bring Back the Wild", with live animal ambassadors, on January 26, 2012. This visit is courtesy of a second Metro grant.
