Eco

The Eco efforts at Sheridan are lead by the Eco Monitors. Meetings are held every second Thursday at first nutrition break. Ideas for improving the eco-friendliness of the school are discussed.

For 2011-12 the team is:

  • Mrs. Doyle, Teacher
  • Mr. Fereira, Custodian
  • Mrs. Rowe, School Council, Community Representative
  • Class Representatives

Current Eco Initiatives:

  • Green Carts - composting food waste from lunch and snacks
  • Blue Bins - recycling
  • Good On One Side - reusing paper for notes, rough drafts
  • Turning Off - turning out lights when  not in use, turning off computer monitors when finished
  • Water Conservation - being mindful of water consumption, using rainbarrel for plant watering
  • Trashless Tuesday - packing garbage-free lunches on Tuesday, using reusable containers (Sheridan School Council purchased stainless steel water bottles to support this initiative)
  • Walk-to-School-Wednesday - reducing pollution by walking rather than being driven to school; also encourages fitness
  • Planting native trees, shrubs and flowers to support local wildlife and natural habitat

Many of these programs are only possible through fundraising or grants, plus the man-power of volunteers. Help is always appreciated, especially in the hot summer months!
