What have we done so far?

Met with School Chairs
Will send info to Chairs for posting on websites
Communicate with stakeholders: parents, chairs, Trans. Comm., trustee, staff regarding Q and A other information
Transition Comm. determined “Coffee and Conversation” schedule determined and communicated
Chris Alexiou’s meetings with children determined
Date teachers visiting Lorne Skuce determined
Private institutions will be called for email addresses in order to forward communication and individuals will be called to invite to “Coffee and Conversation” and student meetings with the principal
Website launch June 1
June 8, 2009
Four Transition Comm. determined: Communication, Transition/Orientation, Culture, Safety and Wellbeing( plans will be posted soon)
School name, colours, mascot will all be Lorne Skuce for next year. During the 2009-2010 school year we will look ahead to the new school and involve all our students in the selections
Student meetings arranged for June 10/11
Private institutions and Catholic School children also notified
Starting email list of families
Furniture has been ordered for the classes
Staff handbook, parent handbook and student agenda have been determined
Summer mailing being prepared for all families
Bussing info will be communicated as soon as we get it/ paid adult bus helpers will be available for the first 4 weeks. Applications will be taken later this month.

Before and after school care will be provided at Lorne Skuce by the Oakville YMCA. Please call the "Y" directly for details and fee information - 905-845-3417.
Please note that Lorne Skuce school hours for 2009-2010:
Instruction begins - 9:15am
Dismissal - 3:45pm

Communication Committee Update
1. Establishing Communication with Lorne Skuce/Palermo Families
Mr. Alexiou has the school website up and running. We would like to
communicate this to families so that parents can refer to it for updated
information. We have begun this through the following:
- made contact with School Council Chairs at Ecole Forest Trail re posting info
items on website
- posted June 20 event here
- a link to Lorne Skuce website is now on the EFT School Council website
- made contact with parent at Heritage Glen who has an email list of parents, she
has emailed the school website to these parents as well as info regarding
June 20 event
- Mr. Alexiou communicated through hardcopy the availability of school website
(on letter to parents regarding visit with Mr. Alexiou).
2. Establishing Consistency in Incorporating Bilingualism into Written
Communication
- spoke with Mr. Alexiou regarding French on newsletters etc.
- spoke with committee chairs regarding communications
- Natalie has volunteered to be the "go to" person for translation
- Mr. Alexiou has ordered signs for school in both languages
3. Communications We Would Like to Receive
- currently compiling a list of suggestions of types of communication that families
would like to receive from the classroom/school
