About Us
Opened in 2011, John William Boich Public School is a vibrant Kindergarten to Grade 8 community dedicated to fostering excellence and belonging. The school’s namesake, John William Boich, was a man of remarkable versatility. Before his distinguished career in education, he played for the Ottawa Rough Riders (1954–1957). After graduating from McMaster and the University of Toronto, he transitioned from the gridiron to the classroom in 1967.
Over the next decade, John W. Boich served as a teacher and principal at both elementary and secondary levels before becoming a Superintendent in Peel, Halton, and Grey County. His influence was truly global; he consulted for educational systems in the U.K., West Germany, Uganda, and across the Caribbean. A former Governor of OISE, his career was defined by a tireless commitment to research, workshops, and leadership.
Today, that same spirit of leadership lives on through our students and our mascot, Jagger the Jaguar.
We take pride in our school culture, operating under the mantra: "JWB is where I want to be."
We encourage all our students to live by our school motto:
"Remember Jaguars: Be honest and true in all you do, treat others with kindness and respect and use the power of forgiveness to make JWB a place to belong."
