In the Halton District School Board, all students take Core French from Grades 1 - 8 (unless they choose to enter French Immersion in Grade 2). Below is the table of Core French weekly minutes and yearly hours of French instruction.
The Ontario FSL Curriculum document provides grade-specific expectations for Grades 4 to 8 with a focus on developing student competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The Primary Core French program focuses on listening and speaking which will be assessed as students begin to develop oral communication skills. Students will actively participate in authentic activities designed to increase their confidence when using French within and outside of the classroom. within both of our French programs with our programming and assessment.
