Retirement of Trustee Kelly Amos triggers appointment process to fill the vacancy
At the April 1, 2025 Halton District School Board (HDSB) meeting, Oakville (Wards 5 & 7) Trustee Kelly Amos gave formal notice of her intention to retire in June. Trustee Amos will remain on the Board for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year, until a replacement has been appointed.
The Board will fill the trustee vacancy through an appointment process in accordance with the Ontario Education Act (221.1) and the HDSB’s Filling a Trustee Vacancy Governance Procedure, which states that, if a trustee position becomes vacant before the end of the member’s term, the remaining elected board members must appoint a qualified person within 90 days after the office becomes vacant, if in the last two years of the term. This process enables the remaining members of the Board to select a successful candidate at a special board meeting which will be open to the public.
Interested applicants can apply by completing the application form on the
Trustee Application Process webpage on the HDSB website (hdsb.ca) by 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22. Applicants will receive confirmation that their application has been received by April 23, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in an interview that will occur on Tuesday, April 29. Candidate qualifications to apply for the Trustee vacancy are listed on the application form posted on the HDSB website. Application forms will also be available in municipal offices.
The successful candidate will be sworn into office during a Board meeting of the HDSB in June, and will serve as a Trustee with the HDSB until Nov. 14, 2026.
