At the May 17, 2017 meeting of the Halton District School Board, trustees initiated discussion and asked questions for clarification regarding the Director's Final Report on the Burlington Secondary School Program and Accommodation Review (PAR) process. Trustees extended the meeting beyond 10 p.m. to allow additional questions and discussion, but there were still speakers on the list and questions to be asked when the Board opted to recess at 11:30 p.m. and reconvene next week.
Committee of the Whole meetings are usually slated for the second and fourth Wednesday evenings of the month, whereas Board meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays. Given the June 7 timeframe for the PAR to come to the Board for consideration, trustees opted to utilize the May 24, 2017 meeting date for a continuation of the Board meeting, allowing additional discussion on the PAR report.
Including the two delegation evenings held on May 8 and 11, and the delegations heard at the beginning of the May 17 Board meeting, trustees have listened to the perspectives of more than 60 delegates. Questions raised by trustees at the May 17 Board meeting sought clarification on points raised by delegates, issues within the report and future implications should the recommendations be approved.
“Trustees still have questions, and the additional opportunity for discussion is important as this is a significant issue for this Board," said Kelly Amos, Chair of the Halton District School Board.
The May 24 meeting will begin at 6 p.m., resuming from the point where the May 17 meeting was recessed, and will continue through the remainder of the May 17 agenda. The meeting will be live-streamed on the Board's website at www.hdsb.ca.
The Burlington Secondary School Program and Accommodation Review decision will come back to the Board at the Wednesday, June 7 meeting for consideration. The special Board meeting slated for Wednesday, May 31 will deal with other matters including the first look at the 2017-18 budget and the long-term accommodation plan. The agenda for the May 31 Special Board Meeting will be posted on the Halton District School Board website at www.hdsb.ca on the Friday preceding the meeting.
