At the Annual Organizational Meeting of the Halton District School Board, held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, trustees elected the Chair and Vice-Chair for the upcoming year. This is an annual process with the 11 Halton District School Board trustees choosing from within their colleagues for these roles.
Incumbent Vice-Chair Kim Graves and Trustee Andréa Grebenc both indicated their interest in the role of Chair. Following the casting of ballots, Andréa Grebenc was announced as the successful candidate, and will serve in the role of Chair for 2017-18.
Andréa Grebenc was elected to the Halton District School Board in 2014, serving Burlington Wards 3 and 6. She has chaired and/or co-chaired a number of committees including the Board's Transportation and Communications committees. She has also been an active participant in policy and by-laws development, the PIC Steering Committee and the Board's Inspire Awards.
In her inaugural comments, Grebenc thanked her colleagues for their support, and looks forward to the implementation of many in-term decisions including the launch of the newly structured French Immersion program, new construction in Milton and increased programming and extracurricular opportunities for north Burlington students.
Tracey Ehl Harrison expressed her interest in the role of Vice-Chair. Uncontested, Ehl Harrison was acclaimed to the role of Vice-Chair for 2016-17. Tracey Ehl Harrison was elected in the November 2014 municipal election, representing Oakville Wards 1 and 2. She has played integral roles in a number of Board committees including Communications, Program and Accommodation and helped to develop the Inspire Awards. Ehl Harrison has a keen interest promoting environmental sustainability including walking or biking to school programs, and actions that promote equity and inclusion.
“My goal as Vice-Chair will be to support Chair Grebenc, the trustee team, our system and the Halton community by facilitating inclusive discussions and actions that support all students and increase confidence in the HDSB," says Ehl Harrison. Ehl Harrison is honoured to have the support of her colleagues in assuming the role of Vice Chair.
The regular schedule of Board meetings will resume in January, with the first meeting slated for Wednesday, January 10, 2018. The entire upcoming meeting schedule is posted at www.hdsb.ca.
