The Ministry of Education recently announced its intention to begin public consultation on a new Health and Physical Education (HPE) curriculum. In the meantime, the government has announced that the HPE curriculum from 1998 will be reintroduced in September 2018.
We are waiting for more information regarding details about the implementation of any changes to the HPE curriculum. We understand that topics such as consent, gender, and online safety will continue to be taught. Any updates will be communicated to our families and staff as soon as we know more.
Be assured the Halton District School Board remains committed to inclusion and will continue to demonstrate respect and understanding for all students. Every student has the right to feel safe, included and valued at school and this requires students seeing their identities reflected in our classroom activities and throughout our schools.
We have an obligation under the Human Rights Code, the Education Act and our own Board policies and procedures to ensure students feel safe and welcomed in our buildings. We will continue to apply the priorities outlined in our Multi-Year Plan focused on student and staff well-being and safety, quality instruction, parent engagement, and responsible use of our resources.
