The Halton District School Board will be hosting its 2019 For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics kickoff on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at the New Street Education Centre (3250 New St., Burlington).
Approximately 500 students, teachers, community mentors and parents are expected to attend the kick-off, which starts at 9 a.m. Students and mentors will receive this year’s robotic challenge on Jan. 5 via a virtual feed – along with hundreds of thousands of other students globally. They will have six weeks to build their team’s robot before taking it to competitions across North America.
ArcelorMittal Dofasco will be recognized for their ongoing sponsorship of this event and their ongoing support of Technological Education, FIRST Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing programs in the Halton District School Board.
“Students on each of the 10 Halton teams will build an impressive robot in six short weeks with guidance from their mentors and teachers, ” said Veronica Kleinsmith, Instructional Program Leader-Technological Education, for the Halton District School Board. "These student-designed, built and programmed robots compete in challenging competitions that truly engage the students in subjects such as Science, technology and Mathematics to help prepare them for careers of tomorrow.”
