At the July 9, 2020 Special Board meeting, Trustees of the Halton District School Board supported changes to the 2020-2021 School Year Calendar. The Ministry of Education requires all Ontario school boards to submit their 2020-2021 school year calendars by July 10, 2020 for final Ministry approval.
The previous proposed school year calendar dates were approved at the March 25, 2020 Board meeting and shared with staff and families at that time. The following changes were supported by Trustees unanimously:
Proposed Changes for 2020-2021
- Move the October 9 PA Day to September 1, 2020. This will provide three PA days prior to Labour Day (September 7).
- Change the last day of the school year from June 30 to June 29, 2021.
- Move the secondary school PA Day from June 30 to June 29, 2021. Second semester exam days would then be scheduled for June 21 - June 25, 2021.
- Note that exam days shown are reflective of the traditional school model. These days will be adjusted as necessary dependent on the school model due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020-2021 School Year Calendar is aligned with the Halton Catholic District School Board calendar, to consolidate resources on school bus transportation, which is shared between the school boards.
The calendar outlines the Professional Activity days (PA) for staff when schools will be closed to students, as well as school breaks and holidays. The first day of school for the 2020-2021 school year is Tuesday, Sept. 8.
These dates will be provided to schools to be shared with students and parents/guardians, and they are also posted on the Board’s website at www.hdsb.ca (refer to the Calendar on the home page).
