A Message From Your Post’s Corners Physical Education Team
We've had a busy start to our school year and it's been wonderful to see our Panthers eager to be active and social. We’ve already competed at our regional Cross Country Meet and at Senior Flag Football. Our Senior Volleyball teams are starting their competitive season and will also be starting our Junior/Intermediate intramurals at the end of October!
Changing for Physical Education in Grade 5-8
Students in Grades 5-8 are encouraged to change for Physical Education classes. In the Intermediate Grades (7 & 8), it is strongly encouraged, as it is a requirement in high school. Information regarding changing, proper attire, and change room protocols have been gone over at length with students in Grade 5-8. Suggested ideas for changing are: an extra shirt, and a pair of shorts or track pants. There will be a variety of options for students to feel comfortable (e.g., access to change rooms with stalls, and washrooms). It's recommended they bring a small drawstring bag with athletic clothes as well as deodorant (please avoid aerosol sprays like Axe).
Intramurals @ Post’s Corners
Intramurals are sports and games played at nutrition breaks that are inclusive of all students’ ability levels in the school. Games and sports are grade specific and focus on the skills and concepts taught in class in a fun and safe environment. Students are able to mix with other classes in the same grade level and engage in a recreational game play atmosphere. Students do NOT need to sign up for intramurals (in grades 1-5), a schedule is posted outside of the gym, as well as posted weekly in the announcements. Intramurals are coordinated and run by our Athletic Squad (P.A.L.S), which consists of Grade 7 and 8 leaders in the school, as well as teachers supervising during the Nutrition Breaks.
Students are reminded that the safety requirements are the same for intramurals as they are in Physical Education classes, for example they must have proper footwear, such as running shoes, to be in the gym (e.g., no snow boots, no rain boots, no sock feet), hair must be tied back, and loose jewelry must be taken off.
Tournament Fundraising
This year we will be hosting many sports tournaments (e.g., volleyball, basketball, ball hockey) to encourage teamwork, school spirit and community involvement. Part of hosting these tournaments involves running a snack bar to keep the athletes fueled and hydrated as well as to raise some money to buy new sports equipment and team jerseys. This year, we are asking families to kindly donate some of the items we sell at the snack bar i.e., cases of Gatorade, juice boxes, nut-free snacks (i.e., granola bars, gummies) and any nut free Halloween treats they no longer need in their homes to be sold at the snack bar. Not having to buy these items will help us to raise the money necessary to purchase these items.
